Take Your Time With Shar Pei Grooming

It is easy to tell when you see a Shar Pei. They are absolutely gorgeous dogs, whose most distinctive characteristic is the wrinkly folds of skin that cover their body. If you have a Shar Pei and want to keep them looking and feeling their very best, then it is going to be imperative that you perform proper and regular grooming.

There are a number of things you need to keep in consideration when it comes to Shar Pei grooming, including brushing, bathing, nails, teeth and flea control. Bathing should be done frequently, at least once or twice a week, to keep the dirt and debris off their fur, especially out of the folds of skin. Just make sure that you push back the folds of skin as you are bathing them so that you can get in the creases. Brushing should be done both before and after the bath, in order to ensure that as much excess fur as possible comes off.

Before you begin Shar Pei grooming you will need to determine what particular type of coat they have. The Chinese Shar Pei comes in two varieties after all, and there are differences in the coat although both are short and harsh. Brushing is one of the most important aspects of all when it comes to Shar Pei grooming. You want to brush their coat at least a couple times a week, and more during shedding season.

You should remove any shed hair with a rubber brush while you are bathing your dog, and then you always want to dry the folds of the dog's skin thoroughly after giving them a bath. This will ensure that there is not water left in between the folds. Apply baby powder in the folds of the skin after drying, and then if you want you can spray the dog's coat with a light gloss spray for a nice sheen, just to make them look their very best.

Grooming your Shar Pei is important to their overall health and wellbeing, and your dog should be treated just like any other member of the family. You want to make sure that every part of their body is taken care of, so that they are left looking and feeling their very best. The Shar Pei grooming process is not especially difficult, although it does tend to require a lot more time and patience than most other dog grooming.

Shar Pei dogs are loyal, loving and friendly dogs. They are truly stunning as long as they are well taken care of, and more than anything this relates to grooming. If you ever do not feel comfortable with any part of the grooming process or you find that you just don't have the time to get it all done, then keep in mind that you can always bring your dog in to the veterinarian and have them take care of it for you.
